This portrait of my brother Les, won a category award in the SAA Artist of the Year competition in 2013 and was exhibited at the Business Design Centre in London.
There isn't too much to say about this one apart from the fact that he was a very reluctant subject as he is normally very shy. But, that said, he came through on the day of the exhibition when he turned up to support me and I think he rather enjoyed being in the limelight!
Winning this award was a very special turning point for me as a self-taught artist as I felt I had finally been accepted as a professional and this gave me the confidence and impetus to work towards making it a lifelong vocation.
At the time of this picture being taken, I was still working as an Arts Technician for Harlington Upper School in Bedfordshire.
