This mixed media work was a commission to be presented to a couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
I was given a range of photos from their wedding and asked to create an interesting composition incorporating the photos with other imagery and text from their favourite poem; The Last Ship by J.R.R. Tolkien.
I began sourcing images of flowers and butterflies as they are both lovers of nature and also images of the bluebird as a symbol of peace and happiness.
To combine all the images together, I assembled all the elements into a pleasing arrangement and then used image transfer techniques to build the composition.
The customer wanted the finished work framed, so I chose a simple champagne coloured wood moulding with a plain white mount to provide a clean visual break between the work and the frame.
The customer and recipients were thrilled with the outcome and it now takes pride of place in the couple's home.
